Bharati Vidyapeeth: A Legacy of Educational Excellence
Over the past 56 years, Bharati Vidyapeeth has made remarkable educational strides, particularly in higher and professional learning. Today, it operates more than 156 educational institutions, ranging from pre-primary schools to postgraduate institutions, including the prestigious Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) (BVDU).
With major campuses in New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Satara, and Panchgani, Bharati Vidyapeeth is one of the few institutions from Maharashtra to have a presence in India’s capital. Its commitment to education extends beyond urban centers, reaching rural, tribal, and coastal areas across Maharashtra.
The institution manages over 78 schools and 60 higher education institutes, covering various disciplines, including Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Biotechnology, Engineering, Management, Hotel Management, Environmental Science, Agriculture, and Physical Education. To foster a strong research culture, Bharati Vidyapeeth has also established five specialized research institutes in Health Sciences, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Applied Chemistry, and Social Sciences.
Expanding beyond academia, Dr. Patangrao Kadam initiated several sister concerns, including cooperative units, service institutions, and an orphanage. The corporate headquarters, located in Pune’s prestigious Deccan Gymkhana area, stands as a landmark, once being the tallest building in the city. Dr. Kadam placed a strong emphasis on quality education, ensuring that Bharati Vidyapeeth institutions provide modern infrastructure, well-equipped libraries and laboratories, spacious playgrounds, and a nurturing learning environment.
A defining moment in Bharati Vidyapeeth’s journey came on April 26, 1996, when the Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, conferred "Deemed to be University" status on 12 of its institutions in recognition of their academic excellence. This milestone fulfilled Dr. Kadam’s long-cherished vision of establishing a university. Today, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) is one of the largest multi-disciplinary and multi-campus universities in India, encompassing 32 institutions across various fields.
In just 14 years, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) has emerged as a leading private university, known for its innovation and academic rigor. Leveraging its autonomy, the university has introduced a range of pioneering academic programs, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in education.
